Complete Guide: A Mommy Makeover
A non-surgical mommy makeover, treatment by treatment: what helps the core, scars, skin, and face after pregnancy, and the order our providers recommend.

Pregnancy and childbirth change your body in ways that diet and exercise do not always reverse. Loose abdominal skin, separated core muscles, stretch marks, a C-section scar, and changes in how your face holds volume are all common, and none of them mean you did something wrong.
A non-surgical mommy makeover at Pura Vida is a customized plan rather than one procedure. Our providers build it from the treatments that address your specific concerns, in an order that makes each stage work better than it would alone.
First, the Timing Conversation
This is the part our providers raise before anything else, because it determines whether your results hold.
We generally recommend waiting until you have finished breastfeeding and your weight has been stable for at least three months. Hormones are still shifting during and after breastfeeding, and hormonal change affects skin quality, fluid retention, and how fat sits on the body. Treating a body that is still changing means treating a moving target.
If weight loss is still part of your goal, that comes first. Our medical weight loss programs exist for exactly this stage, and contouring the areas that remain afterward is far more effective than contouring while the number is still moving.
There is no prize for starting early. There is a real cost to it.
Body and Core Treatments
Emsculpt Neo for the Core
Emsculpt Neo is a non-invasive body sculpting treatment that uses radiofrequency heat and electromagnetic energy to reduce fat and build muscle in the same session. For postpartum patients it is usually the anchor of the plan, because it addresses the abdominal wall itself rather than only the fat on top of it.
That matters for diastasis recti, the separation of the abdominal muscles that pregnancy commonly causes. Building the muscle can meaningfully improve mild to moderate separation, along with core strength and the flat appearance patients are usually after.
Here is the honest limit. Significant separation is a structural gap, and no device closes it. If your examination shows severe diastasis recti or a hernia, we will tell you that surgical repair is the appropriate answer and refer you accordingly. Selling a series that cannot deliver the result would waste your money and your time.
If you are weighing devices, our Emsculpt Neo and CoolSculpting comparison explains why we favor the muscle-building approach for postpartum patients.
Contouring and Lifting
For patients whose concern is shape rather than volume, Emsculpt can lift and firm the buttocks, producing an effect in the same direction as our injectable liquid BBL, without surgery. Results depend heavily on your starting anatomy, and your provider will be direct about what is achievable.
Skin, Scars, and Stretch Marks
Stretch marks and C-section scars are the concerns patients ask about most, and both respond to collagen remodeling rather than to anything applied on the surface.
RF microneedling combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to remodel collagen in the affected skin. It is our most-used tool for stretch marks and for the texture around a C-section scar, and it treats loose abdominal skin at the same time. Morpheus8 and RF microneedling both fall in this category, and your provider selects based on the depth your skin needs.
Plasma IQ Fibroblast uses plasma energy for more focal skin tightening, which makes it useful for smaller areas and finer textural changes.
The SaltFacial is the gentler option in this group. It resurfaces with natural sea salt and finishes with ultrasound and LED, which makes it a reasonable starting point when your skin is still sensitive postpartum or when you would rather build up slowly than begin with a needling treatment.
For the scar specifically, our scar treatment protocols can soften the raised or indented edge and improve color once the scar has fully matured, usually six months to a year after delivery.
Two things worth setting expectations on. Newer stretch marks that still look pink or red respond better than older white ones, because there is active tissue to work with. And improvement is genuine but partial. We do not promise removal, and any provider who does is overselling.
Intimate Wellness
Postpartum changes in this area are common and rarely discussed. FemTouch is a laser treatment for vaginal tissue quality and related symptoms after childbirth. It is a short in-office treatment, and it is worth raising at your consultation even if it feels awkward to bring up. Our providers have this conversation constantly.
Face and Injectables
Faces change through pregnancy and the years of sleep deprivation that follow. Volume shifts, and lines that were not there before settle in.
Neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin soften expression lines, and dermal fillers restore volume where it has been lost.
Our approach here is conservative on purpose. We can always add more, but taking away is either not an option or not a good one. The goal is that you look refreshed and more rested while still looking like yourself, which means we treat lightly at the first visit and refine from there.
Injectables come last in the sequence for a practical reason. Weight change alters facial volume, so filling a face before your weight has settled means paying to correct something that is still moving.
Why the Order Matters
The sequence our providers recommend is weight first, then body and core, then skin and scars, then face. Each stage changes what the next one actually needs, and following it usually means fewer total treatments.
Patients often arrive wanting everything addressed in one visit. We will map the whole plan for you at that first appointment, including the timeline and the cost, and then work through it in the order that protects your results.
Building Your Plan
Pura Vida is a Center of Excellence for Lumenis and a Regional Training Center for Suneva Medical, and providers travel here to learn these techniques. That standard is why we would rather tell you a treatment is not right for you than book it.
Request an appointment at either of our Fleming Island locations, serving Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, and greater Jacksonville. Your provider will examine the areas that concern you and build the plan around your anatomy, your history, and how much recovery time your life realistically allows.
Frequently Asked Questions
Mommy Makeover Questions, Answered
How long after giving birth should I wait for a mommy makeover?
Our providers generally recommend waiting until you have finished breastfeeding and your weight has been stable for at least three months. Hormones, fluid shifts, and changing weight all affect how your body responds and how long results hold, so starting too early often means treating a target that is still moving. Your provider will give you a specific timeline based on your delivery, your recovery, and which treatments you are considering.
Can a non-surgical mommy makeover fix diastasis recti?
It depends on the degree of separation. Emsculpt Neo builds abdominal muscle and can meaningfully improve mild to moderate diastasis recti along with core strength and tone. Significant separation is a structural problem that needs surgical repair, and no device closes a large gap. We assess this at your consultation and will tell you honestly which category you are in, including when a surgical referral is the right advice.
Will treatment get rid of my stretch marks completely?
Stretch marks improve in texture and appearance with treatment, but complete removal is not a realistic expectation and we will not promise it. Newer marks that still look pink or red generally respond better than older silvery-white ones. RF microneedling and Plasma IQ work by remodeling the collagen in the affected skin, so improvement builds over a series of sessions rather than appearing after one.
Can I treat my C-section scar?
Yes. C-section scars respond well to collagen-remodeling treatments once the scar has fully matured, which usually means waiting at least six months to a year after delivery. Treatment can soften the raised or indented texture, improve color, and reduce the shelf that sometimes forms above the scar line. Your provider will examine the scar and confirm it is ready before starting.
How much does a mommy makeover cost at Pura Vida?
Pricing and exact recommended treatments are determined during an individual consultation with one of our providers, because a mommy makeover is a combination of treatments chosen for your specific concerns rather than a set package. Once your provider maps the plan, you get the full cost before committing to anything, and Cherry and Denefits payment plans are available if you would rather spread it out.
