Category Overview

What light-based treatments do

Sun spots, uneven tone, rosacea, and the fine broken vessels that photodamage leaves behind all come down to color sitting where you would rather it did not: extra melanin, or blood vessels close to the surface. Light-based treatments send targeted energy into that color so the body can clear it, leaving skin that reads as calmer, clearer, and more even.

No single device is right for every skin, which is the whole point of choosing well. We carry a range of light-based options and match them to your concern and your skin tone, part of our complete lasers and devices program, and we will tell you honestly when a treatment is not the right fit.

Also In Our Toolkit

Targeted options for specific concerns

Some pigment and vessel concerns call for a more focused tool. These come up at consultation when they fit your skin.

PicoGenesis

Rapid picosecond pulses target stubborn pigment and freckling, often chosen when sun spots need a more focused approach than broad light.

Laser Vein Removal

Targeted laser energy closes small facial vessels and broken capillaries: the fine red threads that photodamage leaves around the nose and cheeks.

Nonsurgical Eyelid Lift

A gentle energy-based option to tighten and refresh the delicate skin around the eyes, discussed at consultation when it fits your goals.

In Expert Hands

Light matched to your skin, by a real clinician

A photofacial is only as safe as the judgment behind it. Every light-based treatment at Pura Vida is delivered by an experienced medical aesthetician who assesses your skin tone first, chooses the right device and settings, and protects the areas that need it.

When broad-spectrum light is not the right call for your skin, we say so and reach for a laser that is, part of the full lasers and devices program built around your skin.

Fleming Island · Northeast Florida

Why the Florida sun makes pigmentation and redness worse

Pigmentation and redness are what the Florida sun leaves behind. With an Extreme UV index for much of the year and a boating, golf-cart, riverside life spent outdoors, our Fleming Island neighbors see sun spots and diffuse redness earlier and deeper. Light-based care here is as much about steady prevention as it is about clearing what is already there.

Northeast Florida’s UV index climbs to extreme from spring through late summer, and sun exposure drives much of the collagen loss and visible aging we treat, so care here is as much about prevention as it is about correction.

The practice Fleming Island trusts for advanced skin care. We’ve been voted the area’s best medspa six years running, earned Lumenis Center of Excellence status, and operate from our Medical Spa on Island Lane.

Is This For You?

Am I a Candidate?

A Good Fit If…

  • You have sun spots, freckling, or uneven tone from years of Florida sun.
  • You have diffuse facial redness, rosacea, or fine broken vessels you would like to calm.
  • You want a clearer, more even complexion with little to no downtime.
  • You are ready to pair treatment with daily sun protection to hold the result.

Let’s Talk First If…

  • You have a deeper skin tone, so we may recommend a 1064 nm laser like Aerolase rather than broad-spectrum IPL.
  • You are recently tanned or sunburned, so we will ask you to wait until your skin settles.
  • You are pregnant, or taking a medication that increases light sensitivity, so let us talk first.
  • You are hoping to clear all pigment in a single visit, which is not how the skin heals, so we will set honest expectations.

If a light-based treatment is not right for your skin or skin tone, we will tell you honestly and point you toward what is. Declining a treatment that could cause harm is part of how we work.

Our Process

How your treatment comes together

Start with a skin assessment

Your first visit is an unhurried consultation. We look at your tone, redness, and sun history under good light, and talk through which light-based treatment fits your skin and your skin type.

Match the device to your skin tone

Skin tone genuinely matters with light-based treatments. IPL suits many skin tones but is not right for the deepest ones, so we route deeper tones to a 1064 nm laser like Aerolase instead. That call is made honestly, for your skin.

Treat comfortably, in a series

Most pigment and redness treatments work best as a short series spaced a few weeks apart. Each session is comfortable, and we explain what to expect as pigment lifts and redness settles.

Protect the result

Under the Florida sun, daily protection is what keeps your result. We send you home with a plan and revisit your progress, because prevention is half of pigment care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pigmentation & Redness Questions, Answered

Where can I get IPL or laser treatment for sun spots and redness near Fleming Island?

Pura Vida treats sun spots, redness, and rosacea at both of our Fleming Island locations, serving Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, and Jacksonville across Clay County. We are the region’s first Aerolase and SmoothGlo provider and have been voted the area’s best medspa six years running, which is why patients travel from across the First Coast for a light-based plan matched to their skin.

What is the difference between IPL and a laser for pigmentation?

IPL, or a photofacial, uses broad-spectrum light to treat sun spots and diffuse redness across a wide area, while a laser like Laser Genesis or Aerolase delivers a single focused wavelength for redness, tone, or deeper skin. Which one is right for you depends on your concern and your skin tone, and that is exactly what we determine at your consultation.

Is IPL safe for darker skin tones?

Not always, and we are honest about that. Broad-spectrum IPL works best on lighter and medium skin tones; on deeper skin it can be less effective and carries a higher risk of pigment change, so we use a 1064 nm laser such as Aerolase instead for those tones. If a treatment is not right for your skin, we will tell you and offer the option that is.

What is the downside of IPL and laser treatments for pigmentation and redness?

The main downside is a short, predictable recovery period: sun spots often darken to a coffee-ground look for several days before flaking away, and a redness treatment can leave you slightly flushed or warm for a few hours. There is no cutting and little real downtime, but results build gradually over a series rather than clearing everything in one visit, and setting honest expectations is part of how we plan your treatment.

How many sessions will I need, and how long do results last?

Most pigment and redness concerns respond best to a short series, often three to five sessions spaced a few weeks apart, with results that hold for many months afterward. Because the Jacksonville area sees an Extreme UV index for much of the year and sun exposure drives up to about 80% of visible facial aging, most patients return for periodic maintenance sessions and daily sun protection to keep their results.

Does IPL age your skin, or does it help with sun damage?

IPL does not age your skin faster; done correctly, it treats the sun spots and redness that already make skin look older by clearing the pigment and vessels causing them. The confusion usually comes from the days right after treatment, when spots darken to a coffee-ground brown and can look temporarily worse before they flake off and fade.
