Weight Loss & Body Contouring · Fleming Island, FL

Weight loss with a provider who actually sees you

Lab work and a full history reviewed by a nurse practitioner. A first visit that runs 45 minutes, in person. Monthly follow-up with the same team, so your dose gets adjusted in weeks rather than never. This is what medically supervised weight loss actually looks like.

How We Approach It

Real weight loss is a program, not just a prescription

A GLP-1 or another weight loss medication can be a genuinely powerful tool. On its own, though, it is still only a tool. What changes the result is a provider who reviews your labs, chooses the program from your clinical picture, sees you every month, and adjusts your dose as your body responds. That ongoing care is the part most programs leave out.

It is also why we spend so much of your first visit on things that are not the prescription: your history, your hormones, your relationship with food, and how we will protect your muscle while your weight comes down. This page walks through the model, then points you to our weight loss programs.

The Full Toolkit

What a weight loss plan draws from

Your assessment decides which of these belong in your plan. Sometimes the answer is not a weight loss program at all, and that is worth knowing before you start one.

Side by Side

Supervised weight loss versus a mail-order program

Both routes can get you a medication. Only one of them adjusts it when your body responds differently than expected.

Julie Davis, founder: we tailor our doses according to the patient's needs, whereas we have found that the online programs typically underdose and patients take years to lose the same amount of weight that we can lose in a very short period of time safely.
Feature Pura VidaOnline telehealth programs
Assessment A nurse practitioner reviews your lab work and your complete medical history before any program is chosen. A telehealth intake form, typically without labs.
First visit A comprehensive in-person visit, typically 45 minutes. A short video call.
Medication Chosen from your assessment, so it may or may not include a GLP-1 class medication. Essentially automatic, since the medication is the product.
Follow-up Monthly, in person, with the same team. Little to none, and rarely in person.
Dosing Tailored to your needs and titrated quickly, because monthly visits make that possible. In our experience, typically underdosed, so progress takes far longer.
Handling a stall We adjust your dose and look for what else is holding you back, such as emotional eating or hormone dysregulation. You are largely left to your own devices.
Muscle protection Addressed directly, through nutrition guidance, exercise, and Emsculpt Neo where a gym is not realistic. Not typically addressed.

Inside the Program

Six things that make it a real weight loss program

None of these is the medication. All of them decide whether the medication works for you.

Labs and history first

Before a program is chosen, our nurse practitioner reviews your lab work and all of your medical history. Then you have a comprehensive visit that typically takes about 45 minutes. During that conversation, she assesses you for the appropriate program, which may or may not involve a GLP-1 class medication.

Monthly visits, and why they matter

After you start, you follow up with us on a monthly basis in person. This is not administrative. It is what allows us to titrate your medication quickly, because we are actually seeing how you are responding. A dose that is not working gets changed in weeks rather than sitting untouched for a year.

When the weight will not move

We adjust dosing if you are not losing weight appropriately. We also talk about whether something else is holding you back, such as emotional eating or hormone dysregulation. Those conversations happen with your team here, and we make a referral when that is what you need.

Muscle is part of the plan

Emsculpt Neo works two ways: it reduces fat in the treated area, and it builds muscle, which matters more for patients on a GLP-1. Many of our patients can't or don't want to go to a gym, whether by preference or physical limitation. Emsculpt Neo lets them build muscle and protect against the muscle loss that often comes with GLP-1 use, without needing a gym.

An optional gym partnership

We also partner with a local gym that focuses on menopausal women, helping them build muscle mass and learn how to eat properly. This partnership is not included in the program; it's simply an option we can point you toward.

Nutrition is not the footnote

Nutrition is critical during a weight loss cycle. The most common misconception we hear is that everyone on a GLP-1 loses muscle. That's not the case when the medication is dosed correctly, the patient eats well, and exercises consistently. Getting those three things right is where the real work happens.

On safety and sustainability

The weight loss programs we offer, including GLP-1 medications, are safe when dosed correctly and when the patient is followed medically. Weight loss is sustainable with lifestyle changes, and the medication supports those changes rather than substituting for them.

A Pura Vida nurse practitioner reviewing a patient's medical weight loss plan in Fleming Island, FL

In Expert Hands

A provider builds your plan, then stays with it

A nurse practitioner chooses your program during a comprehensive visit lasting 45 minutes, after reviewing your lab work and full medical history. A GLP-1 medication is often part of that program, but not automatically.

Then she keeps seeing you. Monthly visits are what make fast dose titration possible, and they are where we catch the other things that stall weight loss, including hormone dysregulation that our hormone therapy program may need to address first.

Fleming Island · Northeast Florida

Monthly, in person, is only possible locally

The whole argument for supervised weight loss rests on seeing you regularly and in person, which is exactly what a national telehealth service cannot do. Our patients come from Fleming Island, Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, and across Clay County, and they come back every month to the same team. That continuity is what turns a prescription into a program, and it is the reason local care is worth the drive.

Northeast Florida also gives us year-round outdoor living, and that shapes what our patients actually want from a weight loss plan. They want to be on the water and on the golf course, capable and mobile, not just lighter on the scale.

The practice Fleming Island trusts for medical wellness: voted the area’s best medspa six years running, cared for from our Medical Spa on Island Lane.

Is This For You?

Am I a Candidate?

A Good Fit If…

  • You want a medically supervised program rather than a prescription mailed to you.
  • You have tried an online program and either stalled or lost weight far more slowly than you expected.
  • You are willing to come in monthly, because that is what makes fast dose adjustment possible.
  • You want your muscle protected while you lose fat, not just a lower number on the scale.
  • You suspect something else is in the way, such as hormones or your relationship with food.

Let’s Talk First If…

  • You want a guaranteed amount of weight lost by a specific date, because success varies wildly from patient to patient.
  • You cannot attend regular in-person follow-up, since supervision is the part that makes this work.
  • You are looking for medication without labs or a history review, which is not something we will do.
  • You are pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive, so let us talk before anything starts.

Your nurse practitioner assesses you for the appropriate program, and sometimes the honest answer is that a weight loss medication is not the right next step for you.

We would rather tell you that than start you on something.

Our Process

Your weight loss plan, from intake to follow-up

First, we review your labs and your full history

Our nurse practitioner reviews your lab work and your complete medical history before anything else happens. This is the step online programs skip, and it is the step that decides whether a medication is appropriate for you at all.

Next, we sit down for a comprehensive visit

You sit down with your provider for a visit that typically runs 45 minutes. In that conversation she assesses which program actually suits you. It may or may not include a GLP-1 class medication.

Then we start your plan and see you every month

You are asked to follow up with us regularly and in person. Monthly visits are what let us titrate your dose quickly, which is the difference between steady progress and a year on a dose that was never right for you.

After that, we look for whatever else is in the way

If the weight is not moving appropriately, we adjust the dose and we also look wider: emotional eating, hormone dysregulation, and other blockers. We handle those conversations internally and refer when a referral is what will help.

Finally, we protect your muscle as you lose fat

Losing weight without losing muscle takes correct dosing, real nutrition, and exercise. Where a gym is not realistic for you, Emsculpt Neo is how we build and protect muscle instead. This is planned alongside the medication rather than after it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Weight Loss Questions, Answered

How is this different from getting a prescription online?

The difference is medical supervision, and it shows up in four places:

  1. Our nurse practitioner reviews your lab work and all of your medical history before choosing a program.
  2. You have a comprehensive in-person visit that typically runs 45 minutes.
  3. You follow up with us monthly, in person, with the same team.
  4. We tailor your dose to your needs and can titrate quickly because we are actually seeing you.

With online programs, patients never see a medical provider in person, there is no real follow-up and no regular accountability, and the medication is essentially handed over. We have also found that online programs typically underdose, so patients take years to lose the same amount of weight we can help them lose safely in a much shorter period.

What labs and checks happen before I start?

Our nurse practitioner reviews your lab work and all of your medical history first, and then you have a comprehensive visit that typically takes about 45 minutes. During that conversation, she assesses you for the appropriate program, which may or may not involve a GLP-1 class medication. The point of the workup is that the program should be chosen from your clinical picture rather than assumed. Pricing and exact recommended treatments are determined during an individual consultation with one of our providers.

Will I lose muscle on a GLP-1?

This is the misconception we most want patients to unlearn. It is not accurate that everyone on a GLP-1 loses muscle. Muscle loss is avoidable when the medication is dosed correctly, when you eat correctly, and when you exercise. Nutrition is critically important during a weight loss cycle, which is why we talk about it at every monthly visit rather than treating it as an afterthought. For patients who cannot or would rather not use a gym, Emsculpt Neo gives them a way to gain muscle and to protect against muscle loss while on a GLP-1.

How does Emsculpt Neo fit with weight loss?

Emsculpt Neo works in two ways. It helps reduce fat in the specific areas we treat, and more importantly it helps build muscle. That second part is what makes it valuable alongside a weight loss program rather than instead of one. Many of our patients either do not want to go to a gym, or have physical limitations that make a gym environment unrealistic for them. Emsculpt Neo gives those patients a route to gaining muscle and to protecting against muscle loss while they are on a GLP-1. Your provider will tell you whether it belongs in your plan and when to start it.

What happens if I stop losing weight?

We adjust your dose. Because we see you monthly, we can titrate quickly rather than waiting for a scheduled review months out. We also widen the conversation, because the dose is not always the problem: we discuss whether there are other things holding you back, such as emotional eating or hormone dysregulation. Those conversations happen internally with your care team, and we make a referral when that is what will actually help you. If hormones look like the blocker, our hormone therapy and menopause programs may be the more useful next step.

How much effort does the program require?

It depends which program you are on, and the difference is real. Some of our programs ask you to calorie restrict and adhere to a specific eating plan, and that takes genuine discipline. On a GLP-1 or GLP-R medication, less effort is required in that respect, because food noise is quieted by the medication. That does not mean no effort: nutrition and exercise still decide whether you keep your muscle and whether the result holds. Your provider will be clear about what your specific program asks of you before you commit to it.

How much weight will I lose, and how fast?

Success varies wildly depending on the patient, and we would rather say that than publish a number you can hold us to. What we can tell you is that the weight loss programs we offer, including GLP-1 medications, are safe when dosed correctly and when the patient is followed medically. And weight loss is sustainable with lifestyle changes, which the medication supports rather than replaces. Your monthly visits are where we measure real progress against your own starting point instead of against an average.

Where can I get medically supervised weight loss near Fleming Island?

Pura Vida offers medically supervised weight loss from our Fleming Island locations, and we see patients from across Clay County, Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, and Jacksonville. Being local is the point rather than a detail: monthly in-person visits are what make fast dose titration and real accountability possible, and neither works over a video call. We have been voted the area’s best medspa six years running.
