Category Overview
Rough texture, enlarged pores, acne scars, and the crepey look that sun damage leaves behind all share a root: the skin’s collagen has thinned or healed unevenly. Resurfacing treatments create a controlled micro-injury that prompts the skin to rebuild collagen from the inside, so the surface renews and reads as smoother, tighter, and more even over time.
No single depth is right for every concern, which is the whole point of choosing well. We carry resurfacing options that range from gentle microneedling to deeper fractional laser, part of our complete lasers and devices program, and we match them to your skin and your recovery time.
The Resurfacing Options
Each treatment works at a different depth and comes with a different recovery. Your provider matches it to your skin and your goal, so the choice is based on your concern, not on a single machine.
Lumenis · fractional CO2
Our deepest resurfacing option. Controlled fractional CO2 creates micro-columns of treated tissue that trigger collagen remodeling for texture, scars, and deep sun damage. It carries an honest ablative downtime.
Learn about AcuPulse Fractional CO2Rejuvapen · non-RF
Fine, controlled micro-channels prompt the skin to rebuild collagen for texture, pores, and mild scars. This is the non-RF microneedling, distinct from RF microneedling, with a shorter recovery.
Learn about MicroneedlingVivace · Cartessa
Adds radiofrequency energy to microneedling for facial texture, pores, and tone. This is a step beyond non-RF microneedling, reaching a little deeper to remodel collagen.
Learn about RF MicroneedlingWhich one is right for you is decided together at your consultation, based on your skin and how much recovery time you can plan for.
Also In Our Toolkit
Some texture and tone goals call for a different tool. These come up at consultation when they fit your skin and your plan.
A non-ablative fractional laser that refines tone and texture with less downtime than CO2, chosen when you want resurfacing with a gentler recovery.
A gentle microneedling-and-serum infusion facial that supports glow and texture, often used as a lighter, more frequent option between deeper treatments.
Morpheus8 is a deep subdermal RF-microneedling device we cover under skin tightening rather than resurfacing. If tightening is your goal, see our full lineup for skin tightening.
In Expert Hands
Resurfacing is only as safe as the judgment behind it. Every treatment at Pura Vida is delivered by an experienced medical aesthetician who assesses your skin type first, chooses the right device and depth, and explains the recovery so there are no surprises.
When a gentler treatment is the smarter call, we say so, and when your goal is deeper, we set honest expectations about downtime. It is all part of the full lasers and devices program built around your skin.
Fleming Island · Northeast Florida
Years of Florida sun, boating on the river, and long days on the golf cart show up in the skin as rough texture, enlarged pores, and the crinkling that photodamage leaves behind. Add the acne scars many of us carry from earlier years, and resurfacing becomes the treatment that rebuilds what the sun and time wore down. Honestly, this happens over months, not overnight.
Northeast Florida’s UV index climbs to extreme from spring through late summer, and sun exposure drives much of the collagen loss and visible aging we treat, so care here is as much about prevention as it is about correction.
The practice Fleming Island trusts for advanced skin care. Voted the area’s best medspa six years running and a Lumenis Center of Excellence, cared for from our Medical Spa on Island Lane.

Our Process
Your first visit is an unhurried consultation. We look at your texture, pores, scarring, and sun history under good light, and talk through which resurfacing treatment fits your skin, your skin type, and how much recovery time you can plan for.
Resurfacing runs from gentle to deep. A short series of non-RF microneedling suits mild texture and pores, while fractional CO2 goes deeper for scars and heavier sun damage at the cost of real downtime. We choose the level honestly, for your skin and your calendar.
We keep you comfortable during treatment and send you home knowing exactly what to expect. Lighter treatments mean a few days of pink, refined skin; CO2 resurfacing means redness and peeling for several days to a week as the skin renews.
The visible change from any resurfacing treatment develops gradually as new collagen builds over about three to six months. Under the Florida sun, daily protection is what preserves that result, so we send you home with a plan and revisit your progress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Laser resurfacing and microneedling both improve texture by prompting the skin to rebuild collagen, but they work at different depths. Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels for a shorter recovery, while fractional laser resurfacing like AcuPulse CO2 uses light to reach deeper for significant scars and heavier sun damage, with more downtime. Which one fits your skin depends on your skin type and how much recovery time you can plan for, something we determine together at your consultation.
The main downsides of resurfacing and microneedling are the recovery time required for deeper options and the fact that results build gradually rather than overnight, so patience matters as much as the treatment itself. Resurfacing improves texture, scars, and sun damage, but it does not lift sagging skin, which is a different treatment entirely. Skin that is recently tanned, sunburned, or prone to keloid scarring also needs to wait until it settles before treatment. We would rather tell you honestly what a treatment can and cannot do than oversell it, and that honesty is part of how we work at your consultation.
Downtime ranges from a day or two of pink, slightly sensitive skin after non-RF microneedling to several days or about a week of redness, swelling, and peeling after fractional CO2, the deepest resurfacing option we offer. RF microneedling and ResurFX fall in between, with a few days of redness. We walk you through the recovery expected for your specific treatment plan before you book, so there are no surprises.
Most people need a short series of three to five microneedling or non-ablative sessions spaced a few weeks apart, while a single fractional CO2 treatment can accomplish in one visit what a series of gentler treatments would, given its longer downtime. Pricing is quoted per session or per package and confirmed at your consultation, since cost depends on the depth and device your provider recommends for your skin.
Some smoothing and glow show up within the first couple of weeks as the surface heals, but the real change comes from new collagen building gradually over about three to six months. That collagen holds up best with daily sun protection. In the Jacksonville area, where UV runs Extreme (index 10 to 11) from April through August, sun exposure drives up to about 80 percent of visible facial aging, so protecting your results after treatment matters as much as the treatment itself.
Pura Vida treats resurfacing and microneedling patients from two Fleming Island locations and serves Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, Jacksonville, and the rest of Clay County. We are the first Aerolase and SmoothGlo provider in the region and have been voted best medspa in the area six years running, with resurfacing led by our medical aesthetician team and overseen by our Medical Director for deeper treatments such as fractional CO2.
