Hair Loss Treatment: What Works, What Does Not, and What We Offer

Hair loss is one aesthetic concern people often wait to ask about. Online advice tends to recommend the same few products regardless of what is causing the thinning, which is why a diagnosis is more useful than a product recommendation.

The Cause Determines the Treatment

Hair thins for several distinct reasons, and they do not respond to the same treatments. The National Library of Medicine’s overview of hair loss is a good neutral primer. In brief:

  • Hereditary pattern loss is the most common cause. It follows a predictable pattern and is progressive if left untreated.
  • Thyroid disease produces diffuse thinning that improves when the thyroid is treated.
  • Hormone shifts around perimenopause, menopause, and andropause are a frequent driver.
  • Nutrient deficiency, particularly iron, shows up as diffuse shedding.
  • Autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata cause patchy loss and require care from a dermatologist or physician.
  • Telogen effluvium is heavy shedding that follows illness, surgery, childbirth, or acute stress by a few months. It often resolves on its own once the trigger has passed.

Treating hereditary thinning as a deficiency wastes months. Treating a thyroid issue with a scalp protocol also wastes time. We start with a scalp and history assessment rather than a product recommendation.

What a Medspa Should and Should Not Treat

A medspa is not the right care setting for every cause of hair loss.

If your assessment points to an autoimmune cause, scarring alopecia, or another medical condition that needs a physician, we will refer you. If it points to a hormone or thyroid issue, the more effective path runs through our hormone replacement or menopause treatment programs, sometimes before we treat the scalp at all. Treating the underlying cause is more effective than treating the symptom.

Our treatments are well suited to early-to-moderate thinning where the follicles are still viable.

Our Protocol: Microneedling, Topical Exosomes, and Laser

Our hair restoration approach is non-surgical and non-injectable. It has three parts.

Microneedling of the scalp. Controlled micro-channels stimulate the scalp’s healing response and improve absorption of what comes next.

Topical Pro-XO exosomes. A growth-factor-based solution applied in-office immediately after microneedling. This is not PRP. PRP is injectable and derived from your own blood; Pro-XO is a topical growth-factor product. We do not offer PRP for hair at our practice and want to be clear about that.

Laser hair rejuvenation. Low-level laser energy used to support the follicle over a course of sessions.

Downtime is minimal. The scalp can feel pink and mildly sensitive for a day or two, and most patients continue their day as usual.

Setting Expectations

A few things we make clear up front.

Response varies by cause and by how far the thinning has progressed. Early and moderate loss responds meaningfully. Advanced or complete loss in areas where follicles are no longer viable does not respond, because there is nothing left to support. No topical, laser, or in-office protocol changes that.

Results are also slow. Hair grows on its own schedule, so we reassess months into a course rather than weeks. This check-in is built into the plan.

Treatment is ongoing. Hereditary thinning is progressive by definition, so maintaining a result requires maintaining the treatment. No one-course permanent fix exists.

Where to Start

If you are early in this process and unsure whether what you are seeing is normal shedding or the start of a pattern, a scalp assessment can tell you which of the causes above you are dealing with, including any we would not treat here. It takes about half an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hair Loss Treatment Questions, Answered

What causes hair loss?

There are several causes, and they require different treatments. Hereditary pattern loss is the most common. Others include thyroid disease, hormone shifts around perimenopause and andropause, iron or nutrient deficiency, autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata, significant stress or illness, and certain medications. Because the causes differ, the effective treatment differs. Assessment comes first.

Do you offer PRP for hair loss?

No. Our protocol is microneedling paired with a topical, growth-factor-based exosome solution called Pro-XO. It is not PRP and it is not an injectable. We call this out because the two are often confused online, and we want you to know exactly what you are booking.

Will treatment fully regrow my hair?

Not for everyone. Early to moderate thinning responds better than advanced or complete loss. Your provider will give you a realistic picture at your consultation based on your scalp and history.

Could my hair loss be hormone-related?

Yes, in many cases. Thinning is often tied to thyroid function, perimenopause, andropause, or other hormone shifts rather than to the scalp alone. If that is the pattern, treating the hormone issue is more effective, and our hormone team works alongside the hair program.

Where can I get hair loss treatment near Fleming Island?

At our Medical Spa on Island Lane in Fleming Island, FL, serving Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, and greater Jacksonville throughout Clay County. Treatment is clinician-led. We will tell you at the consultation if what you have needs treatment beyond what a medspa can offer.
